FAQs

What age athletes does your club accept? We accept athletes ages 5-18. The athletes’ years
of birth will determine their competitive age division. (8 and under, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15-16,
17-18)

Does the club have tryouts? No. Our club is open to all who are willing to participate. That
being said, we are a serious club and we ask our Athletes to provide a good effort and a good attitude.

What are the fees to join your club, and what do they cover? Club Fees for 2024 Summer
season are $100 per month. This season starts March 2024.  The season will conclude at the end of the
junior Olympics, usually around the end of July or beginning if August.  The first month’s fees include
AAU registration/insurance fees. The club fees cover the cost of trainer fees, equipment, and other
miscellaneous items. (Note uniform fee is separate and any Athletic event, like a track meet, will have
a separate entrance fee that is not included in monthly club fees). Family discount – additional Athletes
from the same household are eligible for special pricing. Please inquiry with Coach Alex Garcia at

Where is practice? 2024 Summer will be at Holmes High School.  Follow us on social media
@Alamotrack for any changes.

When is practice? Practice schedule for the 2024 Summer season is subject to change, but will be as follows.
Mondays and Wednesdays at 5:30pm, and Saturday mornings at 9:30am.  We also have Thursday practices for
field events, hurdles, and relays.

When are track meets? We start competing in April 2024 and continue until Junior Olympics.  Track Meets are
usually on Saturdays.

What do I bring to practice? Bring a water container filled with water (we will attempt to have
water at all practices, but please bring your own just in case). Athletes should wear
comfortable running clothes and a good pair of running shoes. Track spikes are highly
recommended for track meets and for some workouts.

Do your coaches have to pass a background check, and are they qualified to coach? Yes, all
coaches are required to register with AAU and pass a background check before they are
allowed to participate in our club.

Head Coach Henry Spillers joined us in 2021. He came to us with over 24 years of combined coaching
experience at the high school and collegiate levels, and he is currently the an assistant coach at Our
Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas (previously coached at UTSA and New Mexico State
University). Coach Henry Spillers has the following track and field certifications.

  • USTFCCA certification – strength and conditioning specialist
  • USTFCCA certification – track and field technical coaching
  • USTFCCA certification – track and field program management

Coach Emily Keiler-Green (Jumps / Distance), Coach Michael Garcia (Middle Distance), and Coach Brent
Holmes (Sprints / Hurdles), and are also on the staff.
